Original canvas (2009) on the bottom, followed by several years worth of new explorations of color combinations upon “fields” layered on to the canvas. It was originally titled “Jazz Blues,” a very bright canvas. i like it much better now, with a more neutralized (and darker) palette, with a thick medium used with the paint to create a glazed effect. It has been titled, “Jazz Blues,” “Juno,” ” #44″ and possibly even “Beloved” for a while.
“Anneliese,” the name my mother called me as a little girl. So this is a self portrait, inspired in part (the lattice effect on her body) by Jaume Plensa sculptures.
